DMAE Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Bronson
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking DMAE against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy
DMAE is a dietary supplement by Bronson with 1 active ingredient. HelloPharmacist Scorecard of DMAE by Bronson
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: DMAE (also called deanol), a compound thought to increase acetylcholine levels in the brain. The rest of the capsule is made up of inactive ingredients including gelatin, cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, and silica — standard fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for DMAE is thin. It's rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer disease and tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements).
For aging skin, ADHD, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or not. If you're thinking about it for one of those reasons, the data we hold doesn't support a clear benefit.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Deanol is generally well tolerated by some adults, but the safety data is limited and side effects do happen. The most common ones are abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.
At higher doses (over 1000 mg daily), it's been reported to cause mood changes including depression and hypomania, especially in people with existing psychiatric conditions. At 1500 mg daily, it's been reported to worsen schizophrenia symptoms.
There isn't enough safety data during pregnancy, so the data advises against use then. For breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so it's best to avoid it.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Check before adding this product if you take anticholinergic drugs (like those for overactive bladder or muscle spasms) or cholinergic drugs. Both types of interactions are Minor, but worth confirming your specific medications won't be affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
DMAE has weak evidence for most uses and a limited safety track record. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, check with us first.
Pregnant people should avoid it. If you have a psychiatric condition or are on psychiatric medication, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

DMAE by Bronson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Bronson's DMAE contains deanol, which interacts with two medication categories.
The Minor interactions span 218 individual medications overall.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine (a brain chemical) levels. This means it may theoretically decrease how well anticholinergic drugs work — medications used for conditions like overactive bladder, muscle spasms, and some types of poisoning.
It may also theoretically boost the effects and side effects of cholinergic drugs, which work in the opposite way.
Both interactions are rated Minor, but if you take any anticholinergic or cholinergic medication, it's worth a quick check with the tool on this page before you start.
