Here's the honest picture for Librium (chlordiazepoxide) and deanol. This supplement is thought to nudge up acetylcholine, a brain signaling chemical, while drugs with anticholinergic-type effects work partly by quieting that same signal. So in theory, deanol could push in the opposite direction and slightly blunt some of those effects. Keep in mind, though, that chlordiazepoxide mostly calms anxiety through a different route (it boosts a calming chemical called GABA), so this particular overlap is small.

The good news is that this is a theoretical, minor, and unlikely concern based only on pharmacology, not real-world reports. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since both touch the brain, just let your pharmacist or doctor know before combining them.

What Is Chlordiazepoxide Used For?

Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms in acute alcoholism, and to reduce apprehension and anxiety before surgery.

Note that everyday stress and tension do not usually require an anxiety medication like this one. Long-term use beyond 4 months has not been well-studied, so your prescriber should periodically check whether it is still the right fit for you.
