ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate
Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Deanol interacts with.
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine levels.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the idea behind this pairing. The chlorpheniramine part of your medicine is an antihistamine that works partly by blocking acetylcholine, the brain and body chemical involved in things like alertness and secretions. Deanol (DMAE) is thought to do the opposite, nudging acetylcholine levels up. So in theory, deanol could slightly work against chlorpheniramine and make it a touch less effective at drying up a runny nose or calming sneezing.
I want to be honest with you though: this is only a theory based on how these two might behave, not something well documented in real patients. For most people it's unlikely to cause a noticeable problem. Neither drug is a prodrug here, so nothing flips. Still, if you take both regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.
