Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Indole-3-carbinol interacts with.

Theoretically, indole-3-carbinol might increase the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates and lower serum concentrations.

Here's the gist for Librium (chlordiazepoxide) and indole-3-carbinol. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear this medication. Lab and animal studies suggest I3C may rev up that enzyme, which could break down Librium a little faster and lower the amount in your blood. If that happened, you might notice your medication working less well, meaning more anxiety or less control over alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

That said, this is theoretical and only based on animal and test-tube data, so it's far from proven in people. Eating broccoli or cabbage at meals is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated I3C supplements are the bigger question mark. Before adding one, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor.

Chlordiazepoxide capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to ease withdrawal symptoms in people going through acute alcohol withdrawal, and to reduce anxiety and apprehension before surgery.

Chlordiazepoxide is not intended for the everyday stress and tension of normal life. Its effectiveness beyond 4 months of use has not been well studied, so your doctor should regularly check whether it is still the right choice for you.
