Here's the gist for clomipramine (Anafranil). Your liver partly relies on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medicine down. In animal and lab studies, indole-3-carbinol seems to speed that enzyme up. If the same thing happened in people, your body could clear clomipramine a little faster, which might lower the level in your blood and make it work less well for your OCD symptoms.

I want to be honest, though: this is theoretical and only based on animal and test-tube data, so we don't really know it matters in real life. The small amounts of I3C you get from eating broccoli or cabbage are very unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. Before starting an I3C supplement, please check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can watch how you're responding.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
