Apixaban falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Indole-3-carbinol interacts with.

Theoretically, indole-3-carbinol might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro research shows that indole-3-carbinol inhibits platelet aggregation.

Here's the simple version. Apixaban (Eliquis) already lowers your blood's ability to clot, which is how it prevents strokes and clots. Indole-3-carbinol, the broccoli-derived compound, has shown in test-tube studies that it may make platelets a bit less sticky on their own. Stack that mild blood-thinning effect on top of Eliquis, and in theory you could see a little more bleeding risk.

What that might look like: easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. I want to be honest though, this concern comes only from lab work, not from real people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. The amount you'd get from eating broccoli or cabbage is very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplements are where I'd pause. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it.

About Apixaban

What Is Apixaban Used For?

Brand name: Eliquis

Apixaban is used to reduce the risk of stroke and dangerous clots traveling through the body in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm not caused by a heart valve problem). It is also used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT — a blood clot in the leg) in adults after hip or knee replacement surgery, and to treat DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE — a blood clot in the lungs) in adults, including reducing the risk of those clots coming back.

Eliquis (the brand-name tablet and kit) is additionally approved to treat venous thromboembolism (VTE — blood clots in the veins) and reduce the risk of recurrent VTE in pediatric patients from birth and older, after at least 5 days of initial anticoagulant treatment. The generic apixaban tablet carries the adult indications only.
