Here's the gist for Valium (diazepam) with indole-3-carbinol. Diazepam is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, and this supplement may speed that enzyme up. Diazepam is an active drug, not a prodrug, so revving up the enzyme could clear it from your body a little faster. In theory that might make it work less well, meaning weaker relief of anxiety, muscle spasms, or seizure control.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It rests on animal and lab data only, not real human studies, so it may not amount to much in practice. The amount you get from eating broccoli or cabbage is very unlikely to matter. Before adding a concentrated I3C supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Diazepam Used For?

  • Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy (condition that causes difficulty with movement and balance), paraplegia (inability to move parts of the body), athetosis (abnormal muscle contractions), and stiff-man syndrome (a rare disorder with muscle rigidity and stiffness). Diazepam is also used along with other medications to control seizures. Diazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
