Indole-3-carbinol + Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen brand names: Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil, Children's Advil, Fenbid Forte Gel, and others.
Indole-3-carbinol has a moderate interaction with Ibuprofen. Theoretically, indole-3-carbinol might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Ibuprofen
Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Indole-3-carbinol interacts with.
In vitro research shows that indole-3-carbinol inhibits platelet aggregation.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: ibuprofen already nudges your platelets, the tiny cells that help your blood clot, so it can slightly raise the chance of bruising or bleeding on its own. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) may do something similar. In lab dish studies it appeared to slow platelets from clumping together, so stacking the two could, in theory, add up to a bit more bleeding risk.
I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's mostly theoretical. The broccoli or cabbage on your plate is very unlikely to matter; a concentrated I3C supplement is the bigger question. Watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, especially if you take ibuprofen often.

About Indole-3-carbinol
What is Indole-3-carbinol?
- Estrogen and hormone balance support
- Breast and cervical health
- Prostate health
- Antioxidant and 'detox' support
- General cancer-prevention interest
Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is a compound formed when you eat cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cabbage, and it is sold as a supplement mainly for hormone-related and cell-protective effects. Most human evidence is preliminary or comes from lab and animal studies, so it should not be relied on to prevent or treat any disease. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Ibuprofen
What Is Ibuprofen Used For?
Brand names: Motrin, Children's Motrin, Advil, Children's Advil, Fenbid Forte Gel, Ibugel Forte, Arthrofen, Ebufac, Rimafen, Calprofen, Fenpaed, Galprofen, Nurofen for Children, Orbifen for Children, Brufen, Brufen Retard, Fenbid, Tab-Profen, Ibuprofen, Calodor
Oral ibuprofen products (tablets, coated tablets, and liquid-filled capsules) are used to temporarily relieve minor aches and pains from headache, backache, toothache, muscular aches, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever. The oral prescription tablet (Ibu) is also indicated for the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis, mild to moderate pain, and primary dysmenorrhea (painful periods).
Caldolor, an intravenous (IV) form, is approved for adults and children 3 months and older to manage mild to moderate pain, to manage moderate to severe pain alongside opioid pain medicines, and to reduce fever. A separate intravenous solution, Ibuprofen Lysine, is used specifically in premature infants to close a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) — an abnormal blood vessel connection near the heart — when standard medical management has not worked.

Ibuprofen Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Ibuprofen as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Indole-3-carbinol — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
