Here's the thing about combining these two: clomipramine already has strong anticholinergic activity built right in. That's why people taking it often notice a dry mouth, blurry vision, constipation, trouble urinating, and a faster heartbeat. Henbane carries its own anticholinergic compounds (hyoscyamine, scopolamine, atropine), so putting the two together stacks these effects on top of each other.

The worry is that this additive load could push things from annoying into dangerous, think severe constipation, urinary retention, confusion, overheating, or a racing heart, especially in older adults. This rating is based on how these chemicals act in the body rather than head-to-head studies, but the concern is real and the plant itself is genuinely toxic. Please don't use henbane, and run any herbal product past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
