Here's the short version: Chlordiazepoxide (Librium) already slows down activity in your brain to calm anxiety and ease alcohol withdrawal. The concern with guarumo is that, in an animal study, a water extract of the plant also had a calming, muscle-relaxing effect on the nervous system. So in theory, layering the two together could add up and make you more drowsy, lightheaded, unsteady on your feet, or foggy than usual.

I want to be honest about the evidence here, though. This is based on animal data only, not human studies, so it's a possible concern rather than a proven one. Chlordiazepoxide isn't a prodrug, so we're really just talking about two sedating things stacking. Before combining them, check with your pharmacist or doctor, and avoid driving until you know how you feel.

What Is Chlordiazepoxide Used For?

Chlordiazepoxide capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to ease withdrawal symptoms in people going through acute alcohol withdrawal, and to reduce anxiety and apprehension before surgery.

Chlordiazepoxide is not intended for the everyday stress and tension of normal life. Its effectiveness beyond 4 months of use has not been well studied, so your doctor should regularly check whether it is still the right choice for you.
