Here's the simple version: in one animal study, a water extract of guarumo had a calming, muscle-relaxing effect on the nervous system. Valproic acid can already cause drowsiness, dizziness, and a bit of unsteadiness on its own. So the worry is that pairing the two could stack those sedating effects and leave you feeling extra sleepy or wobbly.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from lab and animal work, not from people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Guarumo isn't changing how your body breaks down valproic acid, it's just a possible added sedative effect. If you'd like to try guarumo, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since valproic acid is a serious seizure and mood medication.

Valproic acid capsules (brands Valproic and Valproic Acid) and valproic acid oral solution (brand Valproic Acid) are both used to treat epilepsy. Specifically, they are approved for complex partial seizures (either alone or with other seizure types) as monotherapy or add-on therapy, and for simple and complex absence seizures as sole therapy or add-on therapy.
