What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Enzyme-Complete with DDP-IV against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 16 active ingredients, all digestive enzymes designed to help break down food. The main players are amylase (starch), lipase (fat), lactase (milk sugar), papain and bromelain (plant proteases that digest protein), and several others like cellulase, phytase, and protease variants.
Together they're organized into three functional blends: Protein Digestion, Fat Digestion, and Carbohydrate Digestion. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — hypromellose, water, and maltodextrin — which are standard binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for most of these enzymes is not established in the data we hold. Lactase is rated effective for lactose intolerance — that's the one bright spot.
Papain and bromelain have been studied for conditions like cancer, muscle soreness, shingles, and other uses, but the evidence remains insufficient to make a reliable recommendation. The same applies to protease, lipase, phytase, and the others: either the evidence isn't solid enough or we hold no effectiveness ratings for them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated when taken as directed. The main concern is allergic reactions — papain and bromelain can trigger itching, swelling, rashes, or respiratory symptoms in sensitive people.
Papain may also cause stomach irritation or, rarely at high doses, serious damage to the esophagus or stomach lining. Bromelain can cause diarrhea, gas, or stomach upset.
For pregnancy, the safety picture is mixed. Papain in concentrated form is best avoided in pregnancy.
Bromelain, protease, and phytase lack enough safety data, so they're best avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise. Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy.
For breastfeeding, papain, bromelain, protease, and phytase all lack reliable safety data — check with your doctor or pharmacist before using.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin) are the top concern — papain and bromelain may increase bleeding risk. Tetracycline antibiotics might be affected by bromelain, though the evidence is weak.
Check all your prescription and over-the-counter medications with the tool on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take blood thinners (like warfarin) or antiplatelet drugs, talk to your pharmacist before starting this product — papain and bromelain could raise your bleeding risk. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, run it by your doctor first; several enzymes here don't have solid safety data in those situations.
For most people with normal digestion, it's generally well tolerated, though allergic reactions are possible if you're sensitive to papain or bromelain.

Enzyme-Complete with DDP-IV by Kirkman Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Enzyme-Complete with DDP-IV from Kirkman contains several digestive enzymes, and two of them have documented interactions with medications.
Papain may increase the effects and side effects of warfarin (a blood thinner), raising your bleeding risk. One case report described a patient stable on warfarin whose blood-thinning level jumped significantly after taking a papain supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain, another enzyme in this product, may increase bleeding risk if you're on anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners or drugs that prevent clots). There's also a theoretical concern that bromelain might raise levels of tetracycline antibiotics, though a study in healthy adults found no meaningful difference.
Altogether, these interactions span 141 individual medications. We could not check amylase, cellulase, peptidase, invertase, glucoamylase, alpha-galactosidase, xylanase, and diastase — we hold no data for them.
The other enzymes (protease, lipase, lactase, phytase, and the protease variants) showed no interactions in our data, though that's not a guarantee none exist.
Run your exact medications through the checker on this page, especially if you take any blood thinner or antibiotic.
