Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The product facts we hold do not include effectiveness ratings for False Unicorn Root Extract, so the evidence for what it may or may not do isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
False unicorn root is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. However, safety data in humans is limited, and large doses have been reported to cause nausea and vomiting.
The safety data advises against use in pregnancy because of its traditional use to affect the uterus and lack of human safety information. There is not enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding either — talk with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized advice if either applies to you.

False Unicorn by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's False Unicorn is a single-ingredient liquid extract that does interact with medications.
The biggest concern is with drugs processed by your liver via an enzyme called CYP2D6 (cytochrome P450 2D6). False unicorn can slow down how your liver clears these medications, which may raise their levels in your blood.
Affected drugs include some antidepressants like amitriptyline and desipramine, the painkiller codeine, and several others — altogether, these interactions span 730 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
False unicorn also inhibits another liver enzyme, CYP3A4, which processes many blood pressure medications (calcium channel blockers like diltiazem, verapamil, and nicardipine) and chemotherapy drugs (including paclitaxel, vincristine, and vinblastine). Both of these enzyme interactions are rated Moderate severity.
Additionally, because false unicorn may have mild water-shedding (diuretic) properties, it could theoretically increase lithium levels — a Moderate concern that might require a dose adjustment.
Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact prescriptions before you start.

False Unicorn Root Extract, Dry
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates. Some of drugs that are CYP2D6 substrates include amitriptyline (Elavil), clozapine (Clozaril), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), donepezil (Aricept), fentanyl (Duragesic), flecainide (Tambocor), fluoxetine (Prozac), meperidine (Demerol), methadone (Dolophine), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), olanzapine (Zyprexa), ondansetron (Zofran), tramadol (Ultram), trazodone (Desyrel), and others.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro, false unicorn extract inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, false unicorn might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates. Drugs that might be affected include some calcium channel blockers (diltiazem, nicardipine, verapamil), chemotherapeutic agents (etoposide, paclitaxel, vinblastine, vincristine, vindesine), antifungals (ketoconazole, itraconazole), glucocorticoids, cisapride (Propulsid), alfentanil (Alfenta), fentanyl (Sublimaze), losartan (Cozaar), fluoxetine (Prozac), midazolam (Versed), omeprazole (Prilosec), ondansetron (Zofran), propranolol (Inderal), fexofenadine (Allegra), and numerous others.
Lithium
False unicorn is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, false unicorn might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
