What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Formula 918 against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Formula 918 has 2 active ingredients: trivalent chromium and pure crystalline chromium picolinate — both forms of the mineral chromium. Chromium helps your body use insulin and manage blood sugar.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients (vegetable cellulose, k-gelatin, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate) that serve as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The chromium in this product is likely effective for treating chromium deficiency — a rare condition from very low dietary intake. It's possibly effective for type 2 diabetes, though the evidence isn't definitive.
For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, the research we hold suggests it's possibly ineffective, meaning the studies don't show it helps.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are mild — gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, or mood changes.
Rare serious effects (kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown, or low platelet counts) have been reported with very high or long-term doses. Skin rashes, hives, and contact dermatitis have also occurred in some people, especially those with a chromium allergy.
For pregnancy, small amounts from a balanced diet or prenatal vitamins are generally considered acceptable, but extra chromium supplement doses should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it. Limited safety data exists for higher doses.
Chromium appears likely safe during breastfeeding, though talk with your doctor or pharmacist before adding a supplement if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Formula 918 if you use antidiabetes drugs or insulin — chromium may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Also double-check if you take levothyroxine (Synthroid) for your thyroid; chromium may reduce how much you absorb.
If you regularly take NSAIDs or aspirin, let your healthcare provider know, as these may increase chromium levels in your body.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Formula 918 makes sense if you have a chromium deficiency or want to explore chromium for blood sugar support, though evidence for diabetes is mixed. If you take insulin, antidiabetes medications, levothyroxine, or regular pain relievers, you'll need to talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions could affect how well your medications work or your blood sugar control.

Formula 918 by DC Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Formula 918 by DC contains trivalent chromium, which interacts with multiple medication types.
The most serious interaction is with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — chromium may increase how well your body uses insulin or responds to diabetes medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts moderately with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid replacement hormone. It may bind to levothyroxine in your digestive tract and reduce how much your body absorbs, lowering the thyroid hormone available to you — research shows a potential 17% decrease in blood levels.
Minor interactions occur with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen) and aspirin; these pain relievers may increase how much chromium your body absorbs and retains. Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications.
We could not check pure crystalline chromium picolinate — we hold no data for that ingredient form. Before you start Formula 918, run your exact medications through the tool on this page or talk with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you take diabetes drugs, insulin, levothyroxine, or regular pain relievers.

For each ingredient in Formula 918 with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
