Gluco-Control Plus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Gluco-Control Plus by AN American Nutriceuticals
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Gluco-Control Plus contains three active ingredients: vanadyl sulfate (a form of vanadium) and chromium, both minerals that play roles in blood sugar management, plus a Synergistic Gluco Herbal Blend. The product also holds two inactive ingredients — magnesium citrate and vegetable cellulose — which act as fillers and the capsule shell.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For vanadyl sulfate, the evidence is mixed. It's likely effective for preventing vanadium deficiency, but for diabetes and other conditions the evidence is insufficient — we don't have reliable data showing it works.
Chromium has somewhat better support: it's likely effective for chromium deficiency and possibly effective for diabetes itself, though it appears possibly ineffective for prediabetes. We hold no effectiveness data for the herbal blend in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vanadium is generally well tolerated at small dietary amounts, but supplement doses carry risks. At higher doses you may experience gastrointestinal upset — nausea, diarrhea, belly discomfort, and gas.
Rarely, long-term high-dose use has caused kidney damage. Chromium is also generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though high or long-term amounts may pose risks; common side effects include headaches, insomnia, mood changes, and gastrointestinal irritation.
Rare serious effects from chromium include kidney and liver damage and blood cell problems. Regarding pregnancy: vanadium has mixed safety ratings — one source says likely safe, another says possibly unsafe — so there isn't enough agreement to know either way.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice. For breastfeeding, vanadium safety is unknown and should be avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise.
Chromium is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation when taken in small amounts, but extra supplement doses beyond a prenatal vitamin should be avoided unless your doctor recommends it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Gluco-Control Plus, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take diabetes medications or insulin (Moderate risk of low blood sugar), levothyroxine or other thyroid drugs (Moderate risk of reduced absorption), blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (Moderate risk of increased bleeding), or NSAIDs and aspirin (Minor risk of increased chromium levels).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gluco-Control Plus is designed for blood sugar support, but because both vanadyl sulfate and chromium can lower blood sugar, it's important to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it alongside diabetes medications or insulin. It also interacts with thyroid medication and blood thinners.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have kidney disease, discuss this product with your healthcare provider before starting.

Gluco-Control Plus by AN American Nutriceuticals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Gluco-Control Plus by AN American Nutriceuticals contains vanadyl sulfate and chromium, both of which interact with several medications.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) — vanadyl sulfate and chromium can both add to the effects of diabetes drugs and insulin, potentially pushing your blood sugar too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium also interacts with levothyroxine (Synthroid), a thyroid medication — it may bind to the drug in your gut and reduce how much your body absorbs, weakening its effect on your thyroid levels. Additionally, chromium can increase absorption when you take NSAIDs (like ibuprofen or naproxen) or aspirin, which may raise chromium levels in your bloodstream; these are Minor-severity interactions.
Vanadyl sulfate theoretically increases bleeding risk with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs, though the evidence comes from lab studies rather than human trials.
We could not check the third ingredient, Synergistic Gluco Herbal Blend, because we hold no data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 241 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to see whether your specific drugs are affected.

For each ingredient in Gluco-Control Plus with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Vanadyl Sulfate
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
A few very small clinical studies in patients with type 2 diabetes show that the vanadyl sulfate form of vanadium increases insulin sensitivity and might lower blood glucose levels.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
