Vanadium + Bivalirudin
Bivalirudin brand names: Angiomax, Angiox, Angiomax Rtu.
Vanadium has a moderate interaction with Bivalirudin. Theoretically, vanadium might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Bivalirudin
Bivalirudin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Vanadium interacts with.
In vitro research shows that the sodium orthovanadate form of vanadium prolongs clotting time, likely through inhibition of thrombin and factor Xa.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the situation with these two. Bivalirudin is a powerful blood thinner given through an IV, usually during heart procedures like angioplasty or stenting. It works directly on thrombin to slow clotting. Vanadium, in lab studies (not in people), has shown a similar clot-slowing action, blocking thrombin and factor Xa. So in theory, stacking them could nudge your bleeding risk higher.
In practice, this matters less than it sounds. Bivalirudin is only used in a hospital where your clotting is watched closely, and the vanadium concern comes purely from test-tube research, not human data. Still, if you take a vanadium supplement, mention it to your care team beforehand so nothing surprises them. Never stop a medication on your own.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.
- DAnecdotal evidence.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Bivalirudin page
“Bivalirudin (Angiomax) is a strong intravenous blood thinner used during heart procedures like angioplasty, and because bleeding is already its main built-in danger, this list deserves genuine care. All 202 supplements on it interact the same basic way: they thin the blood or blunt platelets themselves, stacking bleeding risk on top of…”

About Vanadium
What is Vanadium?
- Blood sugar and diabetes support
- Athletic performance and muscle building
- Lowering cholesterol
- General trace-mineral supplementation
Vanadium is a trace mineral found in tiny amounts in food, and people get plenty from a normal diet. Supplement claims for diabetes, weight, and athletic performance are not well proven, and higher doses can be toxic. Most people do not need to supplement it, and you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
