Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Hemp product and its label doesn't state a use — see Hemp's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that hemp is effective for constipation, eczema, or familial hypercholesterolemia — the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these. That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the science isn't settled yet from the studies we have on file.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Hemp seed foods in normal amounts are generally well tolerated. The safety data we hold advises caution with concentrated extracts and supplements like this one, because they're less studied than whole foods.

Serious adverse effects are rare but include anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), heart rhythm problems, and hepatitis; allergic reactions to hemp seed protein have also been reported. At typical doses, hemp oil seems generally well tolerated, but very high doses of phytocannabinoids (the active compounds) have caused elevated liver enzymes in a rare case.

We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for this product.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Hemp.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 939 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take estrogen or hormone therapy (Moderate interaction risk), blood pressure medications, ACE inhibitors, blood thinners, or any drugs your liver breaks down through the CYP1A2 or CYP3A4 pathways (all Minor interaction risk).

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you take estrogen therapy, blood pressure medication, blood thinners, or drugs metabolized by your liver, you'll want to check your specific medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this. At normal food amounts, hemp seed is generally safe, but this is a concentrated supplement and the long-term safety profile is still being studied.

Estrogens

Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)

Theoretically, consuming hemp seed protein isolate with ACE inhibitors might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Hemp seed protein hydrolysate has shown ACE inhibitor-like effects in a hypertensive animal model. However, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans. Until more is known, monitor blood pressure and potassium levels.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed might increase the risk of bleeding when used concomitantly with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In animal research, hemp seed at 5% of the diet inhibits platelet aggregation in vitro. However, in human research, taking hemp seed oil 2 grams daily for 12 weeks does not inhibit the aggregation of platelets in vitro.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Likelihood Unlikely Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.

Hemp Select by Terry Naturally: Common Questions

Does Hemp Select by Terry Naturally interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Hemp Select has a known interaction with 938 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Hemp Select contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Hemp Select if I'm on birth control or hormone replacement therapy?
Not without checking first. Hemp may interfere with how estrogen medications work in your body. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your specific prescriptions before starting this product.
Will this product lower my blood pressure?
Hemp seed has compounds that may lower blood pressure, at least in animal studies. If you take blood pressure medication or ACE inhibitors, combining this product could push your pressure too low. Your doctor or pharmacist should clear it first.
What does concentrated hemp oil mean? Is it different from hemp seed oil you'd eat?
Yes — this is a more potent extract, not the same as adding hemp seeds to your salad. Concentrated forms are less studied for safety than whole foods, so we recommend more caution.
Is Hemp Select safe if I take blood thinners?
Animal research suggests hemp seed might increase bleeding risk, but human studies at normal doses haven't found this effect. Still, because there's a theoretical risk, mention this product to your doctor or pharmacist before taking it alongside anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs.
What are the main side effects I should watch for?
Hemp seed is generally well tolerated. Rare but serious effects include allergic reactions (hives, swelling, trouble breathing) and heart rhythm problems. Allergy to hemp seed protein is uncommon but has been reported. Stop and seek help immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for hemp supplements during pregnancy or lactation. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's appropriate for your situation.
