Acalabrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here's the idea behind this one: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear acalabrutinib (Calquence) out of your system. Lab studies hint that hemp may speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could break down acalabrutinib a little faster, which in theory might leave less of it working against your cancer cells.

I want to be honest about how shaky this is. The signal comes only from test-tube research, not from people, and it's rated as a minor, possible concern. Everyday hemp seeds or hemp oil in food are very unlikely to matter. Still, because acalabrutinib is a serious cancer therapy where consistent levels count, please run any concentrated hemp supplement past your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Acalabrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Calquence

Calquence is used to treat adults with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) — either newly diagnosed (in combination with bendamustine and rituximab, for patients who are not candidates for a stem cell transplant) or previously treated (after at least one prior therapy). It is also used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

Both the capsule and tablet forms of Calquence are approved for all three of these uses. The specific combination regimen and treatment schedule depend on the condition being treated and what other medicines are used alongside it — your care team will map that out for you.
