Hemp + Clindamycin
Clindamycin brand names: Cleocin, Dalacin C, Cleocin T Gel, Clindesse, ClindaMax.
Hemp has a minor interaction with Clindamycin. Theoretically, hemp might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Clindamycin
Clindamycin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hemp interacts with.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basics: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down clindamycin, and lab studies suggest hemp might speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear the antibiotic a little faster, which in theory might make it slightly less effective at knocking out your infection. Clindamycin is not a prodrug, so faster clearance means less drug working, not more.
The honest truth is this is a very weak, theoretical concern based only on test-tube research, and it's rated minor. Everyday food amounts of hemp seeds or hemp oil are very unlikely to cause a problem. Still, since finishing an antibiotic properly matters, mention any hemp supplements to your pharmacist or doctor.

These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Hemp or Clindamycin, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Clindamycin page
“Someone on clindamycin (Cleocin) is usually mid-course against a stubborn bacterial infection, and often reaching for a probiotic to protect the gut at the same time. That instinct is understandable, but this list warrants genuine care.”

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
About Clindamycin
What Is Clindamycin Used For?
Brand names: Cleocin, Dalacin C, Cleocin T Gel, Clindesse, ClindaMax
Clindamycin is prescribed for serious infections caused by certain bacteria — including anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that thrive without oxygen), streptococci, staphylococci, and pneumococci. It's often chosen when penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used, such as in people with a penicillin allergy.
It can treat infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissue, bloodstream, abdomen, and female reproductive organs. Because it carries real risks, doctors reserve it for infections where safer antibiotics aren't appropriate.

Clindamycin Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Clindamycin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Hemp — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
