Dhea + Clindamycin
Clindamycin brand names: Cleocin, Dalacin C, Cleocin T Gel, Clindesse, ClindaMax.
Dhea has a moderate interaction with Clindamycin. Theoretically, DHEA might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Clindamycin
Clindamycin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Dhea interacts with.
Some preliminary evidence shows that DHEA may inhibit CYP3A4; however, the clinical significance of this potential interaction is not known.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down clindamycin. There's some early, lab-based hint that DHEA may slow that enzyme down. If that happened, clindamycin could hang around a bit longer than usual, which in theory might nudge up the typical side effects, things like nausea, stomach upset, or diarrhea.
I want to be honest with you, though: this is theoretical and rests on very thin, anecdotal evidence. We don't really know if it matters in real life, and clindamycin is not a drug where small shifts are dangerous. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but do mention to your pharmacist that you take DHEA so they can keep an eye on things.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

Questions About Dhea or Clindamycin
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Dhea or Clindamycin, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Clindamycin page
“Someone on clindamycin (Cleocin) is usually mid-course against a stubborn bacterial infection, and often reaching for a probiotic to protect the gut at the same time. That instinct is understandable, but this list warrants genuine care.”

About Dhea
What is Dhea?
- Anti-aging and low DHEA levels
- Mood and depression
- Vaginal dryness and sexual health
- Fertility support
- Muscle mass and athletic performance
- Adrenal insufficiency
DHEA is a natural hormone that the body makes and that declines with age, and it is sold as a supplement claiming many benefits. The evidence is mixed and limited for most uses, and because it acts as a hormone it can cause real side effects. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a hormone-sensitive condition.
About Clindamycin
What Is Clindamycin Used For?
Brand names: Cleocin, Dalacin C, Cleocin T Gel, Clindesse, ClindaMax
Clindamycin is prescribed for serious infections caused by certain bacteria — including anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that thrive without oxygen), streptococci, staphylococci, and pneumococci. It's often chosen when penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used, such as in people with a penicillin allergy.
It can treat infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissue, bloodstream, abdomen, and female reproductive organs. Because it carries real risks, doctors reserve it for infections where safer antibiotics aren't appropriate.

Clindamycin Is Linked to Lower Levels of 7 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Clindamycin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Dhea — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
