Doxazosin Mesylate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hemp interacts with.

Theoretically, hemp seed protein may have additive effects with antihypertensive drugs.
In a hypertensive animal model, hemp seed protein hydrolysate reduced systolic blood pressure by a mechanism possibly involving the inhibition of renin and angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activities. However, there was no effect of hemp seed protein on blood pressure in normotensive animals. Furthermore, hempseed oil consumption does not seem to reduce blood pressure in humans.

Here's the gist with hemp and your doxazosin (Cardura). The theory is that hemp seed protein might gently nudge blood pressure downward, which could add to what doxazosin already does. Since doxazosin is an alpha-blocker that relaxes your blood vessels, stacking another blood-pressure-lowering effect on top could, in theory, leave you feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or wobbly when you stand up quickly.

That said, I'd keep this in perspective. The only signal comes from an animal study, and in those tests hemp didn't budge blood pressure when it was already normal. In people, hemp oil hasn't been shown to lower blood pressure at all. Food amounts of hemp seeds are very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take concentrated hemp protein supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

What Is Doxazosin Used For?

Brand name: Cardura

Doxazosin tablets — sold as Cardura, Doxazosin, and Doxazosin mesylate — treat two conditions: the urinary symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, an enlarged prostate) and high blood pressure (hypertension). For hypertension, lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

Cardura XL (extended-release tablet) is approved only for BPH symptoms. It is not approved for the treatment of hypertension.
