Hemp + Oestrogen
Oestrogen brand name: Oestrogen.
Oestrogen falls into 3 drug categories that Hemp can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Hemp interacts with whole categories of medication. Oestrogen falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ESTROGENS
1 of 3Why this applies to Oestrogen
Oestrogen falls under ESTROGENS — the group Hemp interacts with.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest version: the concern about hemp and your estrogen therapy is mostly theoretical right now. The only signal we have comes from an animal study where adding hemp seed to the diet helped nudge estrogen (17-beta-estradiol) levels back toward normal. We don't really know how it did that, and there's no solid human data showing it changes how well your estrogen works.
In plain terms, hemp may have mild estrogen-like activity, so in theory it could add to or slightly shift your hormone effects (think breast tenderness, bloating, or spotting if levels run high). But ordinary hemp seeds or hemp oil in food are very unlikely to matter. If you're considering concentrated hemp supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Oestrogen also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: lab studies suggest hemp may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down estrogen. If hemp revs that enzyme up, your body could clear estrogen a little faster, which in theory might make it work a bit less. For someone using estrogen, weaker levels could show up as things like the return of hot flashes, night sweats, or breakthrough bleeding.
That said, I don't want to overstate this. The concern comes only from test-tube research, not real people, and it's rated minor. Hemp seeds and oil in normal food amounts are very unlikely to cause a problem. If you take a concentrated hemp supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how your estrogen is working.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3Oestrogen also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with hemp and your estrogen. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break estrogen down. Early lab research (just test-tube work, not people) suggests hemp might speed that enzyme up a little. If that happened in real life, your body could clear estrogen a bit faster, which could make it work a little less well. For some folks that might show up as breakthrough bleeding or a return of symptoms like hot flashes.
I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical, minor concern based only on early lab data, and the food amounts in hemp seeds or hemp oil are very unlikely to matter. If you're using a concentrated hemp supplement, just give your pharmacist or doctor a quick heads-up.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oestrogen page
“Anyone taking oestrogen should read this page with real care, because the most serious entries can quietly push hormone levels up or wipe them out. Grapefruit blocks the liver enzyme that clears estrogen, raising levels and the risk of side effects, while St.”

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Oestrogen Is Linked to Lower Levels of 5 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Oestrogen as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Hemp — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
