Hemp + Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone
Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone brand name: Divitren.
Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone falls into 3 drug categories that Hemp can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, hemp might interfere with hormone therapy due to its estrogenic effects.

These two interact in 3 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 3 Interactions?
Hemp interacts with whole categories of medication. Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone falls into 3 of those categories, so it can interact with Hemp in 3 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
ESTROGENS
1 of 3Why this applies to Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone
Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone falls under ESTROGENS — the group Hemp interacts with.
In an ovariectomized animal model, a diet containing hemp seed 1%, 2%, or 10% resulted in normalized plasma levels of 17-beta-estradiol. The mechanism of action for this effect is unclear.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with your hormone therapy, which combines estradiol (an estrogen) and medroxyprogesterone (a progestin). The concern with hemp is purely theoretical right now. In one animal study, hemp seed in the diet seemed to nudge estrogen levels back toward normal, hinting that hemp might have some mild estrogen-like activity of its own. Nobody knows the exact mechanism, and there is no solid human evidence behind it.
In plain terms, if hemp does anything, it could slightly add to or shift your estrogen-related effects, things like breast tenderness, bloating, or spotting. Everyday food amounts of hemp seeds or hemp oil are very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about concentrated hemp supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 3Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with hemp and your estradiol/medroxyprogesterone (Divitren). Some lab studies suggest hemp can rev up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways your body uses to break down estrogen. If hemp speeds that clearance, the theory is your estradiol levels could dip a little, which might mean weaker symptom control (for example more hot flashes, night sweats, or breakthrough spotting).
That said, this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, and it's rated a minor interaction. Hemp seeds and oil eaten as food are very unlikely to cause any problem. If you're using concentrated hemp supplements regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you're feeling.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
3 of 3Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that hemp induces CYP3A4 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it: both the estradiol and the medroxyprogesterone in Divitren are processed by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some early lab research suggests hemp may speed that enzyme up. If that happened in real life, it could clear these hormones out a little faster, which in theory might make them slightly less effective. For hormone therapy that could mean a return of symptoms like hot flashes or some breakthrough spotting.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube studies, not people, and it's rated as a minor, possible interaction. Eating hemp seeds or hemp oil as food almost certainly won't matter. If you use concentrated hemp supplements regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Estradiol, Medroxyprogesterone page
“A woman taking Divitren (estradiol plus medroxyprogesterone) for menopause symptoms deserves a clear warning here, because all three major-rated entries on this list of 206 supplements are things people take casually. Grapefruit can push hormone levels higher than intended, St.”

About Hemp
What is Hemp?
- Plant-based protein source
- Heart health support
- Skin and hair health
- Reducing inflammation
- General nutrition (omega fatty acids)
Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil are nutritious foods rich in protein, fiber, and healthy omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, and they are generally safe for most people as part of the diet. While the nutrition is real, strong human evidence that hemp supplements treat specific medical conditions is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using hemp products for a health concern, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
