Acalabrutinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Your body clears acalabrutinib (Calquence) mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found to contain a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and early lab testing suggests BMPEA can slow that same enzyme down by about a third. If that happens, your acalabrutinib could clear more slowly and build up to higher levels than intended.

With a cancer medicine like this, higher levels could mean more side effects, such as headaches, bruising or bleeding, infections, or an irregular heartbeat. I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not real patient data. Even so, because these products may be adulterated and unreliable, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before mixing the two.

What Is Acalabrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Calquence

Calquence is used to treat adults with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) — either newly diagnosed (in combination with bendamustine and rituximab, for patients who are not candidates for a stem cell transplant) or previously treated (after at least one prior therapy). It is also used to treat adults with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) or small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL).

Both the capsule and tablet forms of Calquence are approved for all three of these uses. The specific combination regimen and treatment schedule depend on the condition being treated and what other medicines are used alongside it — your care team will map that out for you.
