Acacia Rigidula and Vancomycin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Vancomycin and Acacia Rigidula in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Acacia Rigidula safety at a glance

Acacia Rigidula overall Avoid Some products contain an unapproved synthetic stimulant (BMPEA), and human safety data are lacking.
Pregnancy Avoid Not enough safety information; stimulant content makes it unsafe to use during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid No reliable safety data; avoid while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Vancomycin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Vancomycin is filed under 2 classifications — antibiotic drugs, oral drugs. Acacia Rigidula has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being cytochrome p450 2d6 (cyp2d6) substrates (moderate), cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates (moderate) and stimulant drugs (moderate) — and none of Vancomycin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Acacia Rigidula Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Vancomycin. It is the side-effect record for Acacia Rigidula on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Acacia Rigidula, this list is the first place to look.

  • A fast or pounding heartbeat Additional detail

“There have been several reported cases of tachycardia and palpitations and one reported case of cardiac arrest in patients taking supplements containing Acacia rigidula and other stimulant ingredients. It is unclear if these adverse effects were due to Acacia rigidula or other stimulant ingredients in the supplements.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Acacia Rigidula — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Vancomycin’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Vancomycin column appears here.

About Acacia Rigidula

What is Acacia Rigidula?

Acacia Rigidula
  • Weight loss
  • Energy and stimulation
  • Boosting metabolism
  • Appetite control
  • Pre-workout/athletic performance

Acacia rigidula is a shrub from Texas and Mexico that is marketed in weight-loss and energy supplements. There is very little reliable human evidence that it works, and some products have been found to contain an unapproved stimulant drug (BMPEA), which raises real safety concerns. Most people should avoid it and talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying any product containing it.

Vachellia rigidula · Fabaceae · Leaves and stems · Capsules, tablets, powders (often in weight-loss and pre-workout blends)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Acacia Rigidula is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Acacia Rigidula record says about it on its own.

Acacia Rigidula: dosing

There is no established or proven safe dose for Acacia rigidula. Given the safety concerns, many pharmacists would recommend avoiding these products altogether.

About Vancomycin

What Is Vancomycin Used For?

Brand names: Vancocin, Vancoled

Vancomycin is used to fight serious bacterial infections caused by certain hard-to-treat bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). When given intravenously (by IV), it treats conditions like septicemia (a serious bloodstream infection), infective endocarditis (infection of the heart valves), skin and skin structure infections, bone infections, and lower respiratory tract infections.

When taken by mouth — as capsules or oral solution (brands include Vancocin and Firvanq) — vancomycin treats Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (C. diff) and staphylococcal enterocolitis (a gut infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus). It's important to know that the oral form does not work for bloodstream or other serious infections, and the IV form does not work for C. diff or gut infections — each route has its own specific uses.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Vancomycin

From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (65,520 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.

Acute kidney injury 4,892 reports
Fever 4,046 reports
