HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder Unflavored by Green Foods
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This powder contains 2 active ingredients: sodium and hydrolyzed collagen. Hydrolyzed collagen is collagen that's been broken down into smaller pieces to make it easier for your body to absorb.
Sodium is an electrolyte your body needs for nerve and muscle function, though most people get plenty from food. The product is unflavored, so it mixes into drinks or soft foods without changing the taste.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we have covers sodium's role in specific health situations, not the collagen itself. Sodium is likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for preventing kidney damage from amphotericin B (a serious antifungal drug).
For other uses like heart failure or bipolar disorder, the evidence isn't strong enough to rate. We hold no effectiveness information for the hydrolyzed collagen component in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is well tolerated at normal dietary levels — up to about 2.3 grams a day, which is what health authorities recommend. The real concern is going over that amount.
Too much sodium is linked to high blood pressure, heart strain, and kidney problems, and it may raise your risk of stomach cancer. Normal food sodium is fine, but this product shouldn't be used as a sodium supplement without checking with your doctor first, especially if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or kidney issues.
For pregnancy and lactation, the safety data we hold rates sodium as likely safe, though some evidence suggests it may possibly be unsafe — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any blood pressure medications (they may become less effective), lithium (your blood levels could change), corticosteroids, didanosine, sodium phosphate, tolvaptan, or any other sodium-containing drugs or supplements. Sodium content and dose interact with how these medications work.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This collagen powder may appeal to someone looking for a neutral-tasting protein source, but the sodium content means it's not for everyone. If you take blood pressure pills, lithium, corticosteroids, or any other medications affected by sodium, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it — the sodium dose matters and could interfere with your treatment.
Even without medications, if you're watching your sodium intake, confirm with your healthcare provider that adding this makes sense for your situation.

Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder Unflavored by Green Foods Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Green Foods Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder contains sodium, which interacts with multiple medication types.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) — high sodium intake can reduce how well they work, potentially making blood pressure harder to control. Sodium also affects how your body handles lithium (used for bipolar disorder), corticosteroids, and several other drug types, each through different mechanisms.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Moderate interactions also occur with didanosine (an HIV medication), sodium phosphate (used for bowel prep), tolvaptan (a water-balance medication), and any other sodium-containing drugs or supplements. Each of these can raise sodium levels in your blood too high when combined with additional dietary sodium.
Altogether, these interactions span 205 individual medications.
We could not check hydrolyzed collagen itself — we hold no interaction data for that ingredient. Because sodium's effects depend heavily on how much you're already getting from food and other sources, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Hydrolyzed Collagen Powder Unflavored with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
