Khella Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herb Pharm
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Khella against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Khella by Herb Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a straightforward single-ingredient product: Khella seed (Ammi visnaga) extract, which is the active ingredient. The extract is suspended in certified organic cane alcohol and distilled water as inactive carriers.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on khella for psoriasis and vitiligo—the conditions it's traditionally used for—isn't established enough for us to rate it. The data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence for either condition, so we can't tell you whether it works for these purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Khella can cause nausea, dizziness, constipation, loss of appetite, headache, itching, and insomnia, especially with prolonged use or higher doses. It may also raise liver enzyme levels.
There's also concern it could increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight. The safety data is limited, and the product is not recommended during pregnancy—the evidence advises against it.
There isn't enough data on its safety while breastfeeding; talk with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized guidance if you're nursing or planning to breastfeed.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, double-check with us if you're on digoxin (Lanoxin) for your heart—khella can weaken it. Also flag any photosensitizing medications like quinolones (Ciprofloxacin), tetracyclines, sulfa antibiotics (Septra, Bactrim), or amitriptyline (Elavil).
And let us know about any drugs that stress the liver, including acetaminophen (Tylenol), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid, methotrexate (Rheumatrex), or methyldopa (Aldomet).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Khella may be worth considering if you're exploring options for psoriasis or vitiligo, but the evidence of its effectiveness isn't strong. The real concern is that it can interact with heart medications, photosensitizing drugs, and drugs that affect your liver.
If you take any prescription medication at all, check it with us first.

Khella by Herb Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herb Pharm's Khella is a single-ingredient liquid extract that does interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with digoxin (Lanoxin), a heart medication. Khella contains a compound called visnadin that can weaken digoxin's effects on your heart, so if you take digoxin, you'll need to check with us before starting this product.

Khella also interacts with drugs that cause photosensitivity (increased sun sensitivity)—things like certain antibiotics such as quinolones (Ciprofloxacin) and tetracyclines, sulfa antibiotics (Septra, Bactrim), and some older antidepressants like amitriptyline (Elavil). Using khella alongside these drugs could theoretically amplify your skin's reaction to sun exposure.
Additionally, khella may stress your liver, so it shouldn't be combined with other drugs that are hard on the liver—including acetaminophen (Tylenol), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid, methotrexate (Rheumatrex), and methyldopa (Aldomet), among others.
Alto together, these interactions span 602 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before you start.

Khella seed (Ammi visnaga) extract
Digoxin (Lanoxin)
Theoretically, khella might decrease the effectiveness of cardiac glycosides like digoxin. The khella constituent visnadin has negative inotropic effects that might counter the effects of cardiac glycosides.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, khella might have additive adverse effects on the liver when used with hepatotoxic drugs. Khella can increase liver transaminases. Some drugs that can adversely affect the liver include acetaminophen (Tylenol), amiodarone (Cordarone), carbamazepine (Tegretol), isoniazid (INH), methotrexate (Rheumatrex), methyldopa (Aldomet), and many others.
Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use might result in increased photosensitivity. Khella constituents can cause photosensitivity. Some drugs that cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.
