This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and uses for gut health, immune function, and muscle recovery. The capsules also contain two inactive ingredients — hypromellose and silicon dioxide — which are standard binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-Glutamine is effective for sickle cell disease. It's possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, recovery after surgery, and critical illness from trauma.
The evidence we hold doesn't establish its use for other conditions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects are belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, gas, stomach pain, headache, muscle or joint pain, nausea, and vomiting.
A small number of people have reported dizziness or headache; in one case, dizziness went away when the dose was cut in half. Two people with bipolar disorder reported mania or hypomania when taking glutamine, so caution is warranted there.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this supplement only under medical supervision. We don't have enough safety data for pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice before taking it if you're pregnant or nursing.
