L-Glutamine Powder Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Glutamine Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and uses for intestinal health, immune function, and muscle recovery. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-glutamine is rated effective for sickle cell disease. It's also rated possibly effective for HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma.
The evidence supporting these uses comes from clinical trials, though for some conditions the data is still limited.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-glutamine is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth in healthy adults. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, flatulence, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. At high doses (10–30 grams daily), GI symptoms are more likely.
People with kidney or liver disease should only use this supplement under medical supervision. There isn't enough safety data to recommend supplemental doses during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor advises it.
Rare cases of dizziness, mood changes (mania or hypomania), and neurological effects have been reported, particularly in people with bipolar disorder or neurological conditions.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs) are the main concern — glutamine may theoretically reduce their effectiveness, though this hasn't been confirmed in patients. Check your exact medications with the tool on this page before starting.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly with recovery after surgery or during critical illness. If you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs), check with your pharmacist before starting.
Anyone with kidney or liver disease, bipolar disorder, or a neurological condition should talk to their doctor first. Stick to lower doses to minimize stomach upset.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Glutamine Powder by DaVinci Laboratories has one documented interaction with a major drug category.
The ingredient L-glutamine may theoretically interfere with anticonvulsant medications (drugs used to prevent seizures). Glutamine is broken down in your body into glutamate, an excitatory brain chemical that might work against how anticonvulsants do their job.
However, this interaction hasn't been reported in actual patients yet — it's a theoretical concern based on how the supplement is metabolized.

Although no interactions with other medication types are documented in our data, this doesn't mean none exist. Altogether, these interactions span 50 individual medications.
