L-Glutamine Powder Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by DC
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking L-Glutamine Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Glutamine Powder by DC
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a single-ingredient powder: L-glutamine, an amino acid your body naturally makes and uses for gut and immune function. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence is strongest for sickle cell disease, where glutamine is rated effective. For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the data supports it as possibly effective, meaning there's promise but more research is needed.
Keep in mind these ratings reflect specific clinical uses — if you're considering glutamine for a different reason, the evidence may not apply.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects are digestive: belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. Rare cases of dizziness and mood changes (mania or hypomania) occurred in people with bipolar disorder; symptoms improved when the dose was lowered.
If you have kidney or liver disease, use this only under medical supervision. Safety data in pregnancy and while breastfeeding is limited, so check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it in those situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Moderate caution with anticonvulsants (seizure medications) — glutamine may theoretically reduce their effectiveness, though this hasn't been reported in patients. Check your exact seizure medication with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-glutamine may be worth considering if your doctor has recommended it for sickle cell disease, HIV-related wasting, or recovery from surgery or critical illness. If you take seizure medication, clear it with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Anyone with kidney or liver disease should use it only under medical supervision. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider before starting.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Glutamine Powder by DC has a documented interaction with anticonvulsants (seizure medications).
Glutamine is broken down in your body into glutamate, an excitatory brain chemical that theoretically could work against how anticonvulsant drugs prevent seizures. That said, this interaction hasn't been seen in actual patients yet — it's a concern based on how the ingredient works, not on proven cases.
