What’s inside
Full disclosure
Leanology Chocolate Mocha contains 2 active ingredients: sodium and a proprietary blend. The proprietary blend's contents are not listed on the label, so we can't tell you what it is or what it does.
You'll also find a number of inactive ingredients—corn syrup, nonfat dry milk powder, cocoa powder, maltodextrin, natural flavors, spray-dried coffee, glycerin, soy lecithin, carrageenan, and sucralose—which are fillers, thickeners, and flavoring agents rather than active components.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We have no effectiveness evidence in our data for Leanology Chocolate Mocha as a product. The sodium in it has been rated Likely Effective for cystic fibrosis and Possibly Effective for reducing kidney damage from the antibiotic amphotericin B, but those are medical uses, not a reason someone would buy this supplement.
For the proprietary blend, we hold no effectiveness data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is generally well tolerated in normal dietary amounts, which is what you'd get from most foods. The concern here is excess: too much sodium is linked to high blood pressure and puts strain on your heart and kidneys.
The safety notes advise against sodium supplements or very high intake without medical guidance. Rare serious adverse effects at high intakes include worsened heart disease, high blood pressure, and kidney disease.
Research also suggests that high sodium intake is associated with increased gastric cancer risk.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before using this product, double-check if you take blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), lithium for mood disorders, corticosteroids, the HIV drug didanosine, sodium phosphates for bowel prep, or tolvaptan. All are affected by added sodium at Moderate severity.
Use our medication checker to confirm your exact drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have high blood pressure, take lithium, use corticosteroids, or have heart or kidney disease, talk to your pharmacist before trying this product—the sodium content could affect your medications or your condition. Even if none of those apply, don't take sodium supplements without medical advice; normal food sodium is fine.

Leanology Chocolate Mocha by TriVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Leanology Chocolate Mocha by TriVita contains sodium, which can interact with several classes of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood pressure drugs (antihypertensives): high sodium intake may reduce their effectiveness, potentially requiring dose increases to maintain blood pressure control.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium also interacts with mood stabilizers like lithium (a Moderate interaction) — high sodium intake can lower lithium levels and reduce its effect, while low sodium intake can raise levels and cause toxicity. It affects corticosteroids (Moderate) by increasing the risk of elevated sodium levels in the blood when used together.
Additionally, sodium interacts with the HIV medication didanosine, certain bowel-prep medications (sodium phosphates), and tolvaptan, a drug used to raise sodium levels in certain conditions (all Moderate). Other sodium-containing drugs carry the same Moderate risk.
The product also contains a proprietary blend, which we could not check for interactions.
Additionally, use the medication checker below to verify your exact drugs before starting this product. Altogether, these interactions span 203 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Leanology Chocolate Mocha with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
