Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: organic maitake mushroom extract. Maitake is a medicinal fungus that's been studied for immune support and metabolic effects.

The capsule itself uses HPMC as an inactive ingredient (a plant-based capsule material).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Maitake Mushroom's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Supports immune response and healthy blood sugar.
  • We looked for evidence on: Diabetes, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, HIV/AIDS, Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Maitake Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Maitake Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, and more.

The evidence for maitake mushroom is still limited. The product facts we hold don't show established proof that it works for hay fever, chemotherapy-related side effects like anemia or diarrhea, laryngeal cancer, or chronic fatigue syndrome — each has insufficient reliable evidence to rate.

If you're considering this for a specific health reason, your pharmacist can help you weigh what research does exist outside our data.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Maitake mushroom is generally well tolerated when eaten as a food, though supplement safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were gastrointestinal — a small number of participants experienced diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain, and one person developed a rash that cleared on its own.

Because there isn't enough safety data, concentrated supplements like this one should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This single-ingredient maitake extract may appeal to those looking for immune or metabolic support, but it's not right for you if you take warfarin, blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs without checking first. Talk with your pharmacist about your exact medications before starting — that's the safest way forward.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.

Likelihood Possible Evidence B
Antihypertensive Drugs

Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Warfarin (Coumadin)

There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
