Maitake Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Maitake against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Maitake by Pure Essence MyPure
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: organic maitake mushroom extract. Maitake is a medicinal fungus that's been studied for immune support and metabolic effects.
The capsule itself uses HPMC as an inactive ingredient (a plant-based capsule material).
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for maitake mushroom is still limited. The product facts we hold don't show established proof that it works for hay fever, chemotherapy-related side effects like anemia or diarrhea, laryngeal cancer, or chronic fatigue syndrome — each has insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
If you're considering this for a specific health reason, your pharmacist can help you weigh what research does exist outside our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Maitake mushroom is generally well tolerated when eaten as a food, though supplement safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials were gastrointestinal — a small number of participants experienced diarrhea, nausea, or stomach pain, and one person developed a rash that cleared on its own.
Because there isn't enough safety data, concentrated supplements like this one should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications against maitake before you start, especially if you take warfarin (a blood thinner), any blood pressure medication, or any diabetes drug. All three categories have documented moderate-severity interactions with this extract.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This single-ingredient maitake extract may appeal to those looking for immune or metabolic support, but it's not right for you if you take warfarin, blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs without checking first. Talk with your pharmacist about your exact medications before starting — that's the safest way forward.

Maitake by Pure Essence MyPure Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pure Essence MyPure Maitake contains maitake mushroom extract, which does interact with several medication types.
The most serious concern is warfarin (a blood thinner), where there's limited evidence that maitake may strengthen warfarin's blood-thinning effect — one case report documented a patient's blood-clotting measure (INR) jump to 5.1 after taking maitake for a week. If you take warfarin, you'll want to check with us before starting this.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blood pressure medications and diabetes drugs are the other major considerations. Maitake can lower blood pressure, so combining it with blood pressure-lowering drugs might push your pressure too low.
Similarly, since maitake can lower blood glucose, taking it alongside diabetes medications raises the theoretical risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Both are moderate-severity concerns — not guaranteed, but worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Alongether, these interactions span 257 individual medications. We don't have a list of every single drug affected, so use the medication checker on this page with your exact prescriptions before you start.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
