ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Ethacrynic Acid
Ethacrynic Acid falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Maitake Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Ethacrynic acid (Edecrin) is a strong water pill that pulls extra fluid and salt out through your urine, which also tends to nudge your blood pressure down. In animal studies, maitake mushroom appeared to lower blood pressure too. So the concern is just additive: stacking the two could in theory drop your pressure a little more than expected.
If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or weak, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest though, this interaction is only theoretical and based on animal research, not solid human studies. Eating maitake as food is unlikely to be an issue. With concentrated supplements, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and don't change your Edecrin on your own.

About Maitake Mushroom
What is Maitake Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- General wellness and antioxidant support
Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
About Ethacrynic Acid
What Is Ethacrynic Acid Used For?
Brand name: Edecrin
Ethacrynic acid tablets (sold as Edecrin and Ethacrynic Acid) are used to treat edema — excess fluid that builds up in the body — when other, milder diuretics aren't strong enough. It treats edema related to congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease, including nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition that causes protein loss and swelling).
It is also used for short-term management of fluid buildup from malignancy (cancer-related ascites), idiopathic edema (swelling with no clear cause), and lymphedema (swelling from a blocked lymph system). In hospitalized children (not infants), it may be used short-term for edema related to congenital heart disease or nephrotic syndrome.
