What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: maitake extract, a concentrated form of the maitake mushroom. There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on maitake mushroom doesn't support claims for hay fever, chemotherapy-related anemia, laryngeal cancer, diarrhea from chemo, or chronic fatigue syndrome — all are rated insufficient to know either way. If you're considering this product for one of those uses, the data we have isn't strong enough to say it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Maitake mushroom is generally well tolerated when eaten as food, but safety data for concentrated supplements hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects reported in trials are gastrointestinal — diarrhea and epigastric pain (upper belly discomfort).
A small number of trial participants experienced nausea, and one reported a rash and itching after two doses, which cleared on its own. There isn't enough safety data to recommend concentrated maitake supplements during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting if you take blood pressure medicine, diabetes medication, or warfarin — all three carry Moderate interactions with maitake.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Maitake mushroom extract is generally well tolerated for most people, but it's not a simple add-on if you take blood pressure medicine, diabetes medicine, or warfarin — all three carry a documented risk of interaction. Before you start, check your medications with your doctor or pharmacist to make sure it's appropriate for you.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Maitake Mushroom Extract by Nootropics Depot does interact with medications.
The main concern is through maitake's ability to lower blood pressure and blood sugar, and potentially to boost the blood-thinning effect of warfarin.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blood pressure medicines (antihypertensive drugs) are a Moderate concern — maitake may add to their effect and push your pressure too low. The same goes for diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs): maitake can lower blood glucose, so combining it with drugs that do the same raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Warfarin (Coumadin), a blood thinner, also carries a Moderate interaction — limited evidence suggests maitake may strengthen its anticoagulant effect, and one case report documented a significant rise in INR (a measure of thinning) after a patient took maitake for just one week.
Altogether, these interactions span 260 individual medications. Use the search tool below to check your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

Maitake Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking maitake mushroom polysaccharide (MMP) can lower blood glucose levels in patients with types 2 diabetes.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining maitake mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is limited evidence that maitake mushroom may increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
In a case report, a patient previously stabilized on warfarin developed an elevated international normalized ratio (INR) of 5.1 after taking maitake mushroom (Grifron-Pro Maitake D-Fraction) 1 drop/kg daily in three divided doses for one week. The elevated INR resolved after holding warfarin for two days, then reducing the dose by 11%. It is thought that the beta-glucan constituent of maitake mushroom might cause warfarin dissociation from proteins, resulting in increased free warfarin levels and increased warfarin effects.
