Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: maqui berry at 900 mg per capsule. Maqui is a South American berry studied for potential effects on blood sugar and eye health.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — gelatin and rice powder — which help form and fill the capsule.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Maqui product and its label doesn't state a use — see Maqui's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for maqui berry's effectiveness is insufficient. Our data shows it hasn't been established as reliably effective for dry eye, prediabetes, or psychological well-being.

While animal studies suggest maqui may lower blood sugar, human trials in people with prediabetes haven't borne that out so far.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Maqui is likely safe in food amounts, but supplement safety hasn't been well studied at larger doses. The safety information available on maqui supplement use is limited enough that more research is needed before we can say how safe it is at supplement-level amounts.

We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for maqui, so talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Maqui.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 86 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antidiabetes drugs, check this product against your exact medications before starting. There's a Minor-severity theoretical risk of low blood sugar when maqui is combined with diabetes medication.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and some safety-information gaps remain.

If you're curious about maqui for general wellness, the safety profile in food amounts is reasonable — but supplement safety isn't well understood. If you take diabetes medication, check with your pharmacist first.

The evidence for its effectiveness on any specific condition isn't established yet.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, maqui fruit extract may increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research shows that maqui berry reduces fasting blood glucose. However, maqui berry extract taken orally, either as a single dose or daily for 3 months, does not decrease fasting blood glucose in prediabetic patients. It is unknown whether it might reduce blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
