Metavo Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Metavo against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
Metavo has 2 active ingredients: chromium and avocado. Chromium is a mineral that plays a role in blood sugar control and is essential for normal body function — your body needs small amounts from food, but this product supplies it in concentrated form.
Avocado is a fruit extract included for its potential effects on cholesterol levels and overall metabolic health. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — hypromellose, cassava starch, and magnesium stearate — which help hold the formula together and make it easy to swallow.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for treating chromium deficiency, and possibly effective for diabetes support. For prediabetes (impaired glucose tolerance), the evidence suggests it may not be effective.
For schizophrenia and high blood pressure, the data we hold shows it's possibly ineffective. Avocado extract is possibly effective for high cholesterol.
For metabolic syndrome, aging skin, and obesity, we don't have enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, but high or long-term doses may carry risks for some people. The most common side effects are mild — gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects (kidney or liver damage, muscle breakdown, and low platelet counts) have been reported, as have skin reactions including rashes and hives in some users. Avocado as a food is widely considered safe, but it's rarely caused severe allergic reactions in people sensitive to latex, or a serious gastrointestinal condition called acute food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) with severe vomiting and diarrhea — mostly in infants and young children.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Metavo, double-check these medication types with your doctor or pharmacist: diabetes drugs and insulin (risk of low blood sugar), levothyroxine or other thyroid medications (may lower absorption), warfarin or other blood thinners (may reduce effectiveness), and NSAIDs or aspirin (may increase chromium levels in your body).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have type 2 diabetes or take blood sugar or thyroid medications, or if you're on warfarin, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting Metavo — the interactions could affect how well your medications work or your blood sugar control. The product is generally well tolerated in most people at typical doses, but talk it over with your healthcare provider to be sure it's right for your situation.

Metavo by SP Nutraceuticals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Metavo by SP Nutraceuticals contains chromium and avocado, both of which interact with medications.
The most serious concern is chromium's Moderate interaction with antidiabetes drugs and insulin — it may increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) by adding to their glucose-lowering effects. Chromium also interacts Moderately with levothyroxine (thyroid medication), potentially lowering its absorption by around 17% if taken together.
Additionally, chromium has Minor interactions with NSAIDs and aspirin, which may increase how much chromium your body absorbs.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Avocado carries a Moderate interaction with warfarin (a blood thinner), where it may reduce warfarin's effectiveness — though this is based on only a single case report.
If you take any diabetes medications, insulin, levothyroxine, warfarin, NSAIDs, or aspirin, run your exact medications through our interaction checker before starting this product. Altogether, these interactions span 180 individual medications.

For each ingredient in Metavo with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
Avocado
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Avocado may antagonize the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
Avocado may antagonize the anticoagulant effects of warfarin; however, there has been only one case report of this interaction.
