Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf, supplied at 1,000 mg per capsule. Mulberry leaf is a plant extract used in traditional and supplement medicine, typically to support blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients—rice powder, gelatin, and vegetable magnesium stearate—which are standard binders and capsule materials.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for white mulberry leaf is insufficient to establish whether it works for any of the conditions it's marketed for—including hair loss (androgenic alopecia), bone health, cold prevention, blood sugar control, and cholesterol support. While some research suggests it may lower blood glucose in the body, we don't hold reliable evidence that it's effective for diabetes management or any other use in the data we have on file.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken orally. The most common side effects are mild and digestive: bloating, constipation, loose stools, and gas.

In one clinical trial at 4.6 grams three times daily, about half of participants reported bloating or flatulence, a quarter had loose stools, and one in five had constipation—but these effects often lessened over the course of the 12-week study, suggesting they may be temporary for some people. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts of white mulberry leaf, so the safety data advises against it.

If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs or medications that are OCT2 substrates (kidney-transport medications, including metformin). White mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and may slow how your kidneys clear certain drugs, raising their levels in your body and increasing side effects.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Mulberry Leaf 1,000 mg may appeal to you if you're interested in traditional plant support for blood sugar or cholesterol, but the evidence to back those uses isn't established yet. If you take any diabetes medication or any drug that uses the kidney transporter OCT2 (including metformin), you should check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product—the interaction risk is real, and blood sugar monitoring may be needed.

Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it. It's a good idea to run this through your healthcare provider to make sure it fits your personal situation.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

Mulberry Leaf 1,000 mg by Nutritional Concepts: Common Questions

Does Mulberry Leaf 1,000 mg by Nutritional Concepts interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Mulberry Leaf 1,000 mg has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Mulberry Leaf 1,000 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Mulberry Leaf if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts of white mulberry leaf during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so the safety data advises against it. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your options if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant.
What side effects does this supplement have?
Most side effects are mild and digestive: bloating, gas, loose stools, or constipation. In clinical trials, these happened in a minority of people and often went away over time. White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated overall.
Does Mulberry Leaf actually help with blood sugar?
Some research shows white mulberry leaf may lower blood glucose in the body, but we don't hold reliable evidence that it works for diabetes management. The evidence for its use is insufficient, so it's not proven effective for blood sugar control yet.
Can I take this if I'm on metformin?
You should check with your doctor or pharmacist first. Animal research shows white mulberry leaf can slow how your kidneys clear metformin, potentially raising its level in your body. Your healthcare provider can tell you whether it's safe for you.
Does this product have fillers?
Yes. Besides the active white mulberry leaf, the capsule contains rice powder, gelatin, and vegetable magnesium stearate—standard inactive ingredients that help hold the supplement together.
Will this help with my cholesterol?
The evidence for white mulberry leaf and cholesterol is insufficient, so we don't have reliable proof that it works for that purpose. If you're interested in supporting your cholesterol, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about options with stronger evidence.
