Taken by mouth, stinging nettle is generally well tolerated, though some people report constipation or diarrhea. Eyebright orally may cause confusion, headache, nausea, constipation, cough, or nasal congestion.

Rare cases of liver inflammation have been reported with stinging nettle in herbal blends; fresh stinging nettle leaves on skin can cause itching, rash, and stinging that may last hours.
