Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: nattokinase 100 mg per capsule at a potency of 2000 fibrinolytic units (FU). Nattokinase is an enzyme derived from natto, a traditional Japanese fermented soybean food, and is thought to work through blood-thinning and clot-dissolving effects.

The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, silica, and vegetable stearate — which are fillers and binders.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Nattokinase's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: maintain normal circulatory health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, Atherosclerosis, Peripheral arterial disease (PAD), Venous insufficiency — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Angina (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Nattokinase is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Atherosclerosis, Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Hyperlipidemia, Hypertension, and more.

The evidence we hold for nattokinase does not yet establish its effectiveness for the conditions studied: angina, atherosclerosis, cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic fatigue syndrome all carry a rating of insufficient reliable evidence. That means the research so far hasn't been strong or complete enough to make a confident claim either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Nattokinase is generally tolerated in the short term, but its blood-thinning properties mean you should be cautious if you have any bleeding risk. Rare reports of bleeding, including a serious case of brain hemorrhage, have been linked to nattokinase use.

Additionally, it can trigger hypersensitivity reactions — including anaphylaxis in rare cases — in people sensitive to natto or its compounds, with symptoms appearing within 2 hours of taking it. The safety data advises against nattokinase during pregnancy because there isn't enough information to know it's safe.

The same holds for breastfeeding — safety is unknown, so it's best avoided until more is known.

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Nattokinase.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 289 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on any blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, apixaban, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel, or aspirin) — nattokinase raises your bleeding risk. Also flag any blood pressure medications you're taking, since nattokinase may lower your pressure further.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Nattokinase may appeal to those interested in blood flow and cardiovascular support, but the evidence for specific conditions isn't yet solid enough to rate. The real concern is if you take blood thinners, aspirin, or blood pressure medications — this supplement can strengthen those effects and raise your bleeding or low-pressure risk.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any bleeding tendency.

Nattokinase 100 mg 2000 FU by Nova Nutritions: Common Questions

Does Nattokinase 100 mg 2000 FU by Nova Nutritions interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Nattokinase 100 mg 2000 FU has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Nattokinase 100 mg 2000 FU contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is nattokinase safe if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No, the safety data advises against it in pregnancy because there isn't enough information. For breastfeeding, safety is unknown, so it's best avoided. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Can I take this if I have a bleeding disorder or take aspirin?
You should check with your doctor first. Nattokinase has blood-thinning effects, and there's a documented case of serious brain bleeding when someone combined it with aspirin. Your provider needs to know about both before you add this supplement.
What are the side effects?
It's generally well tolerated short-term, but bleeding — including rare serious brain bleeding — has been reported. If you're sensitive to fermented soybeans (natto), you could have an allergic reaction within 2 hours, ranging from throat swelling to anaphylaxis.
Does it actually work for heart disease or high blood pressure?
The evidence we hold doesn't yet establish that — conditions like cardiovascular disease and angina all carry a rating of insufficient reliable evidence. Some research does suggest it may lower blood pressure, but the overall case isn't settled.
What is FU, and what does 2000 FU mean?
FU stands for fibrinolytic units, a measure of nattokinase's clot-dissolving potency. This product provides 2000 FU per capsule.
Does it contain any allergens?
Yes — nattokinase is derived from fermented soybeans (natto). If you're sensitive to natto, soy, or the enzyme itself, you could have an allergic reaction. Check the label and talk with your pharmacist if you have soy allergies.
