Oat Combination Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Genestra Brands
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Oat Combination against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Oat Combination by Genestra Brands
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Oat Combination contains 4 active ingredients: oat aerial parts extract, passionflower aerial parts extract, motherwort aerial parts extract, and skullcap aerial parts extract. The liquid also contains purified water and ethanol as inactive ingredients.
Each of these plant extracts has been traditionally used for different purposes — oats for cholesterol and heart health, passionflower and skullcap for relaxation and sleep support, and motherwort historically for women's health. The product combines them in a single liquid formula.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
For oat extract, the data shows it's likely effective for dyslipidemia (unhealthy cholesterol levels) and coronary heart disease prevention. Passionflower is possibly effective for insomnia and pre-procedural anxiety, though the evidence isn't conclusive.
Motherwort is possibly effective for bleeding, but evidence for anxiety, amenorrhea, alcohol use disorder, and asthma is insufficient. Skullcap's effectiveness is not established in our data — all rated conditions, including epilepsy, stress, stroke, and spasticity, show insufficient reliable evidence.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Oat extract is generally well tolerated; the most common side effects from oral use are bloating, flatulence, abdominal distension, and unpleasant taste — these usually improve with continued use. Oats eaten as food are generally considered safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, though concentrated supplements are less studied.
Passionflower is generally well tolerated short-term but can cause drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, and sedation. It is possibly unsafe in pregnancy due to lack of safety data and possible effects on the uterus, and there isn't enough information to use it while breastfeeding.
Motherwort is traditionally thought to stimulate the uterus and should be avoided in pregnancy; breastfeeding safety is unknown. Skullcap safety in pregnancy and lactation is unknown.
Motherwort side effects include diarrhea and stomach irritation; at doses above 3 grams it may cause uterine bleeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product with your own doctor or pharmacist if you take insulin or other diabetes medications — oats can lower blood sugar and may require dose adjustments. Also flag it if you take any sedatives or sleep aids (CNS depressants), since passionflower, motherwort, and skullcap can increase drowsiness and sedation.
And if you take medications metabolized by your liver's CYP3A4 enzyme system, mention this product too.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product's oat content may help with cholesterol and heart health, and its passionflower and skullcap may support relaxation — but the combination carries real risks if you take blood sugar medications, insulin, or sedatives. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any prescription medications, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.

Oat Combination by Genestra Brands Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Oat Combination by Genestra Brands interacts with medications through its oat, passionflower, motherwort, and skullcap content.
The most serious interactions are Moderate-severity effects on blood sugar control and sedation.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Oat extract may lower blood glucose and work additively with diabetes medications and insulin, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). In insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes patients, 100 grams of oats daily for 2 days reduced the insulin dose needed for metabolic control.
Passionflower, motherwort, and skullcap all carry Moderate-severity risks with sedative drugs (CNS depressants) — their combined sedative effects could add to those of medications like lorazepam or other sleep aids. Passionflower also has Minor-severity theoretical interactions with certain drugs metabolized by the liver (CYP3A4 substrates and OATP transporters).
Before starting this product, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page — especially if you take insulin, diabetes pills, or anything prescribed for sleep or anxiety.

For each ingredient in Oat Combination with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata) aerial parts extract
Cns Depressants
Concomitant use of passion flower with sedative drugs might cause additive effects and side effects.
Research in animals and humans shows that passion flower has sedative effects which can be additive when used with sedative medications like lorazepam.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.
Organic Anion-Transporting Polypeptide Substrates (Oatp)
Theoretically, passion flower might reduce the bioavailability of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the passion flower constituents apigenin and vitexin inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2. This inhibition may be dose-dependent. One specific high-flavonoid passion flower extract (Valverde) seems to inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2, while another extract with a lower flavonoid concentration (Arkocaps) shows less potent inhibition. OATPs are responsible for the uptake of drugs and other compounds into the body; however, the specific activities of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 are not well characterized.
Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) aerial parts extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, taking motherwort concomitantly with other CNS depressants may increase the risk of sedation.
Motherwort has been reported to cause CNS depression and sedation.
Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora) aerial parts extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, skullcap can have additive effects when used with other CNS depressants.
Animal and clinical research suggests that skullcap can cause sedation and cognitive impairment.
Oat (Avena sativa) aerial parts extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, oats may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Consuming oats can decrease blood glucose in patients with diabetes. In those who require insulin, taking oats 100 grams daily for 2 days reduces the insulin dose required to achieve metabolic control.
Insulin
Concomitant use of oats and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In patients with insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes, taking oats 100 grams daily for 2 days reduces the insulin dose required to achieve metabolic control.
