Glyburide, Metformin falls under ORGANIC ANION-TRANSPORTING POLYPEPTIDE SUBSTRATES (OATP) — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might reduce the bioavailability of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the passion flower constituents apigenin and vitexin inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2. This inhibition may be dose-dependent. One specific high-flavonoid passion flower extract (Valverde) seems to inhibit OATP2B1 and OATP1A2, while another extract with a lower flavonoid concentration (Arkocaps) shows less potent inhibition. OATPs are responsible for the uptake of drugs and other compounds into the body; however, the specific activities of OATP2B1 and OATP1A2 are not well characterized.

Here's the honest scoop on combining passion flower with your Glucovance (glyburide and metformin). Lab studies suggest that certain plant compounds in passion flower, like apigenin and vitexin, can block transporters called OATPs that help shuttle some medicines into the body. In theory, that could slightly lower how much of your medication gets absorbed, which might mean a bit less blood sugar control.

But I want to keep this in perspective: this is based only on test-tube research, not real people, and it's rated as a minor interaction. For most folks, occasional passion flower for sleep or nerves likely won't throw off your numbers. Still, since blood sugar matters, keep an eye on your readings and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it, especially concentrated, high-flavonoid extracts.
