Clindamycin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the quick version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down clindamycin, and some lab studies suggest passion flower might gently nudge that enzyme to work a little faster. In theory, that could clear clindamycin out of your system a touch quicker, which might make the antibiotic slightly less effective at fighting your infection.

That said, I don't want to alarm you. This is based only on test-tube research, the effect was described as much weaker than known enzyme boosters, and it's rated a minor interaction. For most people taking a short course of clindamycin, this isn't likely to cause a real problem. Still, since finishing your antibiotic fully matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

Clindamycin is prescribed for serious infections caused by certain bacteria — including anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that thrive without oxygen), streptococci, staphylococci, and pneumococci. It's often chosen when penicillin-type antibiotics can't be used, such as in people with a penicillin allergy.

It can treat infections of the lungs, skin and soft tissue, bloodstream, abdomen, and female reproductive organs. Because it carries real risks, doctors reserve it for infections where safer antibiotics aren't appropriate.
