Here's the simple version: triazolam (Halcion) is a benzodiazepine that calms your brain to help you fall asleep. Passion flower seems to do something similar, nudging up GABA, the brain's natural quieting signal. Stack the two together and their relaxing effects can pile on top of each other.

What that might look like for you is feeling extra drowsy, foggy, or unsteady the next morning, more dizziness, or trouble fully waking up. To be fair, this caution is based mostly on how these two work in theory and in small studies, not on strong proof of harm with triazolam specifically. Still, since both are sedating, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the gist for these two together. Your body clears triazolam using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab studies suggest passion flower might gently speed that enzyme up, which could clear triazolam a little faster and make it work less well. Triazolam is not a prodrug, so faster clearance means a weaker sleep effect, not a stronger one.

Honestly, this is very theoretical. It comes only from test-tube research, and the effect was described as far weaker than known enzyme boosters. There's also a flip side worth mentioning: both are calming, so combining them could simply add to next-day drowsiness. If you take Halcion and want to try passion flower, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

Triazolam tablets are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Treatment is generally intended for 7 to 10 days. Halcion (a brand of triazolam) is specifically indicated for this same short-term use in adults.

Using triazolam for more than 2 to 3 weeks requires a full re-evaluation by your doctor to rule out an underlying medical or psychiatric condition driving the sleep problem.
