Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the gist if you're reaching for a passion flower supplement while taking dextromethorphan for a cough. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down dextromethorphan. Lab research hints that passion flower might gently speed up that enzyme, which could in theory clear the cough medicine a little faster and make it slightly less effective at quieting your cough.

Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence is only from test-tube and animal studies, the effect looked much weaker than known enzyme boosters, and it's rated a minor interaction. If your cough isn't easing up the way you'd expect, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Dextromethorphan temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation, such as the kind that comes with the common cold or breathing in irritants. It also helps reduce the urge to cough so you — or your child — can get to sleep.

Some products, including CVS Long Acting Cough and Premier Value Tussin Cough oral liquids, are also indicated to help loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to help drain the airways.
