What is this page for?

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Omega 3-6-9 by Sundown
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Sundown Omega 3-6-9 contains 5 active ingredients: a blend of omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids sourced from flaxseed oil, sunflower seed oil, and oleic acid. These are combined into a softgel capsule with inactive ingredients including corn starch, carrageenan, sorbitol, vegetable glycerin, and natural caramel color.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence on these ingredients is mixed. Oleic acid and sunflower oil both show possibly effective ratings for high cholesterol and coronary heart disease.
Flaxseed oil, on the other hand, is rated possibly ineffective for obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, bipolar disorder, and high blood lipids — so it may not deliver the anti-inflammatory or metabolic benefits some people seek from omega supplements.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sunflower oil is generally well tolerated in normal food amounts; concentrated supplement doses haven't been well studied. Oleic acid in normal food amounts is considered safe, but supplement-level doses lack good safety data.
Flaxseed oil is generally well tolerated, though a small number of users report stomach upset, dry mouth, or changes in bowel habits at around 5 grams daily; higher doses (30 grams and above) have been linked to loose stools and diarrhea. Rarely, severe allergic reactions to flaxseed oil have been reported.
An allergic reaction to sunflower oil is possible in people sensitive to ragweed and related plants, though the protein content is very low. During pregnancy, sunflower oil is likely safe at normal food levels.
Oleic acid and flaxseed oil are rated possibly safe during pregnancy, but concentrated supplement doses haven't been well studied — talk with your doctor about use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin) — flaxseed oil may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, or ezetimibe (Zetia), as this product may change how they work and could require a dose adjustment.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sundown Omega 3-6-9 may help with cholesterol and heart health if oleic acid and sunflower oil prove effective for you, but its flaxseed oil component is rated possibly ineffective for several common uses. If you take blood thinners, blood pressure medication, diabetes medication, or ezetimibe (Zetia), you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — it could affect how your drugs work or cause unsafe blood pressure or bleeding.
Talk with your own healthcare provider about whether it's right for your situation.

Omega 3-6-9 by Sundown Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sundown Omega 3-6-9 interacts with medications through its oleic acid, sunflower seed oil, and flaxseed oil content.
The most serious interaction is a Moderate risk: flaxseed oil may increase bleeding when combined with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin or warfarin), as it can thin the blood further.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Flaxseed oil also poses a Moderate risk with blood pressure medications — it may lower blood pressure on its own, so combining it with antihypertensive drugs could cause an unsafe drop. There's a separate Moderate interaction with ezetimibe (Zetia), a cholesterol drug: taking them together blocks your body's ability to absorb the beneficial compounds from flaxseed oil.
Oleic acid and sunflower seed oil both affect diabetes medications (Moderate severity), but in opposite ways: oleic acid may strengthen their effect, while sunflower oil may weaken it — so your blood sugar control could shift either direction, and your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication dose. We could not check linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid for interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 379 individual medications. Use the search tool on this page to check your exact drugs before starting.

Ezetimibe (Zetia)
Concomitant use of flaxseed oil and ezetimibe reduces the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid from flaxseed oil.
In one clinical study, concomitant consumption of ezetimibe 10 mg daily with flaxseed oil 2 grams providing 1 gram of alpha-linolenic acid daily blocked the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid, resulting in an overall reduction in alpha-linolenic plasma levels from baseline.
Sunflower seed Oil
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, sunflower oil might decrease the effectiveness of antidiabetes medications.
A diet using sunflower oil as a fat source can cause increased fasting blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
