Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: chlorella, a single-celled green algae. Each tablet holds 200 mg of organic chlorella.

There are no other active ingredients listed, and the product contains no added inactive fillers or binders.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Chlorella's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Chlorella for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Pregnancy-related iron deficiency — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold shows chlorella is possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency. For other uses — brain tumor, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), depression, and fatigue — the evidence isn't yet established well enough for us to rate it.

If you're considering chlorella for one of these conditions, talk with your doctor about what the current research supports.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Chlorella is generally well tolerated over the short term, but quality and purity vary widely between products — that's why choosing a reputable brand matters. The most common side effects are mild and include allergic reactions, abdominal cramping, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, gas, nausea, photosensitivity, and changes in stool color.

Most digestive upset happens in the first two weeks. Serious allergic reactions like anaphylaxis are rare but have been reported, both in people taking the supplement and those preparing the tablets.

There isn't enough safety data on chlorella to recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor has approved it specifically for you.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Chlorella.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 337 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this product, check whether you're on warfarin (Coumadin) or any blood thinners — chlorella's vitamin K content can make them less effective. Also flag any photosensitizing drugs with your pharmacist, as chlorella may intensify sun sensitivity.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Chlorella may help with pregnancy-related iron deficiency, but evidence for other common uses isn't firm yet. If you take warfarin or photosensitizing medications, check with your pharmacist first — this supplement can interfere with both.

Start low and watch for digestive upset or sun sensitivity, and always pick a quality brand.

Organic Clean Chlorella SL 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select: Common Questions

Does Organic Clean Chlorella SL 200 mg Tablets by Health Ranger Select interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Organic Clean Chlorella SL 200 mg Tablets has a known interaction with 337 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Organic Clean Chlorella SL 200 mg Tablets contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is chlorella and what's it supposed to do?
Chlorella is a single-celled green algae. The evidence we have shows it's possibly effective for pregnancy-related iron deficiency. For other uses like boosting energy or supporting liver health, the research isn't established yet.
Will this cause side effects?
Most people tolerate it well, but common side effects — especially in the first two weeks — include stomach cramping, diarrhea, gas, and nausea. Allergic reactions and photosensitivity (increased sun sensitivity) have also been reported. Serious reactions like anaphylaxis are rare but possible.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data to know either way. Talk with your doctor before taking it — unless they've specifically approved it, it's best to skip it until you've checked.
Why does the label say product quality varies widely?
Chlorella supplements can differ a lot from brand to brand in purity and what else they contain. Picking a reputable brand — like Health Ranger Select — helps ensure you're getting a cleaner product.
Should I worry about sun exposure while taking this?
Yes — chlorella can increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun. If you're already on a medication that does the same thing, the effect could add up. Be extra careful with sunscreen and sun exposure while taking it.
