Rosemary is safe in normal food amounts, but concentrated extracts require caution. Medicinal doses should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to limited data.

Topical use can cause allergic reactions, lip or gum swelling, or — rarely — occupational asthma. It may also cause photosensitivity in sensitive people, and the undiluted oil could theoretically trigger seizures.
