What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 7 active ingredients.
  • “PB Assist Jr Probiotic Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (30 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This powder contains 7 active ingredients: five different probiotic strains (live beneficial bacteria) and fructo-oligosaccharides, a type of fiber that acts as a prebiotic — food for the good bacteria already in your gut. The probiotics include Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Bifidobacterium breve, Lactobacillus salivarius, two strains of Lactobacillus plantarum, and Bifidobacterium lactis.

The inactive ingredients are sweeteners (xylitol and erythritol), thickeners (maltodextrin and glycerides), citric acid, silica, and natural strawberry-melon flavoring.

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: probiotic supplement for digestive and gut health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Clostridioides difficile infection, Colic, Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Radiation-induced diarrhea — and 4 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Fructo-oligosaccharides (fos) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Constipation (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Fructo-oligosaccharides (fos) is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Travelers' diarrhea.
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Breve is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Constipation, Rotaviral diarrhea, Ulcerative colitis, and more.

The evidence for what this product can do is thin. For fructo-oligosaccharides, we don't have enough reliable data to say whether it helps with osteoporosis, constipation, blood sugar, traveler's diarrhea, or high cholesterol.

For Bifidobacterium breve specifically, the research suggests it's likely ineffective for age-related cognitive decline and sepsis, and there's insufficient evidence for allergies, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or atopic disease. The other probiotic strains in this blend don't have effectiveness ratings in our data.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Fructo-oligosaccharides are generally well tolerated in food amounts, but at supplement doses can cause gas, bloating, flatulence, and abdominal pain — especially at higher doses. However, studies of doses between 2.5 and 15 grams daily for up to 8 weeks didn't show a higher rate of these symptoms compared to placebo.

Bifidobacterium breve is generally well tolerated in healthy people, though it should be used cautiously in those who are very ill or immunocompromised; rare cases of probiotic-related blood infections have occurred, mainly in critically ill infants and young children. Limited safety data exist for supplement-level use, so talk with your doctor before starting.

We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety information on file for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Bifidobacterium Breve.

  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before starting PB Assist Jr, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antibiotic drugs — they can reduce how well the Bifidobacterium breve in this product works, so you may need to time the doses apart. The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a multi-strain probiotic with prebiotic fiber intended to support digestive health, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't well established in the data we hold. If you take antibiotics, space them out from this product so the probiotics aren't killed off.

Anyone who is very ill, immunocompromised, or pregnant or breastfeeding should check with their own doctor or pharmacist before using it.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.

PB Assist Jr Natural Strawberry Melon Flavored by doTERRA: Common Questions

Does PB Assist Jr Natural Strawberry Melon Flavored by doTERRA interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, PB Assist Jr Natural Strawberry Melon Flavored has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
PB Assist Jr Natural Strawberry Melon Flavored contains 7 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this probiotic work while I'm on antibiotics?
Taking this product at the same time as antibiotics may reduce how well the Bifidobacterium breve works — antibiotics can kill the live organisms. Talk to your pharmacist about spacing them out, usually by a few hours or more.
What are the side effects I should expect?
The main side effects from the fructo-oligosaccharides are gas, bloating, and abdominal pain, especially at higher doses. Studies of typical supplement amounts didn't show these were worse than placebo. Bloating has been reported with probiotics in general, though rarely specific to Bifidobacterium breve.

We don't have enough reliable evidence in our data to say whether it helps with constipation or other digestive issues. Effectiveness hasn't been well established for the strains and doses in this formula.
What does 'prebiotic' mean in the ingredient list?
The fructo-oligosaccharides are a prebiotic — a type of fiber that feeds the good bacteria already in your gut, helping them grow. It's different from a probiotic, which is live bacteria itself.
Is this safe for very ill or immunocompromised people?
Probiotics in this product should be used cautiously if you're very ill or have a weak immune system; rare blood infections from probiotics have been reported in critically ill patients. Check with your doctor before using.
