Pedia Calm contains 3 active ingredients. GABA is a neurotransmitter—a chemical your brain uses to promote relaxation.
DMAE Bitartrate (also called deanol) is a compound thought to increase acetylcholine levels, another brain chemical involved in focus and memory. Phosphatidylserine is a fat-like substance found in your cells that also supports acetylcholine activity and may help with memory and thinking as you age.
The product also contains inactive ingredients—vegetarian capsule, rice flour, microcrystalline cellulose, ascorbyl palmitate, and silica—which are fillers, binders, and capsule material.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for GABA in this product is limited: the data shows insufficient evidence to rate it for anxiety, ADHD, athletic performance, cerebral palsy, and chronic bronchitis. Phosphatidylserine fares better—it's rated possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, though evidence for ADHD, cognitive function in general, and dementia is insufficient.
DMAE Bitartrate is rated likely ineffective for Alzheimer disease and tardive dyskinesia (a movement disorder), and there's insufficient evidence for ADHD, athletic performance, and aging skin. Overall, the proof that this combination works for any specific condition in children or adults isn't well established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, each ingredient is generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety data is sparse for all three. GABA's most common side effects are drowsiness, nausea, gastric upset, muscle weakness, and minor throat burning.
DMAE Bitartrate may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting; higher doses (over 1000 mg daily) have been linked to mood changes and, in people with schizophrenia, worsening symptoms. Phosphatidylserine commonly causes flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, nausea, and insomnia—especially at higher doses.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: The safety data advises against all three ingredients during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or nursing.

GABA
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taking GABA with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical research shows that GABA can decrease blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, GABA might have additive sedative effects when used in conjunction with CNS depressants. However, it is unclear if this concern is clinically relevant.
Endogenous GABA has well-established relaxant effects and GABA(A) receptors have an established physiological role in sleep. However, the effects of GABA supplements are unclear, as it is unknown whether exogenous GABA crosses the blood-brain barrier. Although there have been limited reports of drowsiness or tiredness with GABA supplements, these effects have not been widely reported in clinical studies. Additionally, intravenous GABA 0.1-1 mg/kg has been shown to induce anxiety in a dose-dependent manner.

Anticholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, deanol might decrease the effectiveness of anticholinergic drugs.
Deanol is thought to increase acetylcholine levels.
Cholinergic Drugs
Theoretically, deanol might increase the effects and adverse effects of cholinergic drugs.
